Cricket: India Rout West Indies, Clinch Test Series!

At the majestic Eden Gardens, Kolkata Team India scripted a huge win by defeating West Indies by an innings and 15 runs just before tea on the fourth day of the second cricket Test today. Thus India takes an invincible 2-0 lead in the three test series. Reeling after the drubbing by England in England and rolling down the ICC Test rankings India started climbing upwards to the second spot with this win.

It was nice to see the Indian batting maestros giving a vintage treat from the first day onwards with three brilliant centuries. Rahul Dravid the Wall hit 119 falling just 21 runs short of another landmark of 13000 test runs—only the second player after Sachin Tendulkar coming close to achieve it. He also made the highest 952 runs in this calendar year scoring five centuries so far.

VVS Laxman showed his class building the innings immaculately and remaining not out on a commanding 176. He went on to bag the man of the match award. Skipper MS Dhoni gave him able support and scored the third century of the innings remaining unbeaten too on 144. India posted a mammoth total of 631 for 7 declared. Now it was up to the visitors to fight on.

Maybe tired after nearly two days of fielding the West Indies team folded up for just 153 runs in the first innings. Following on they gave a much better reply taking the fight onto the fourth day maybe this time India were tired after fielding for nearly two days. A brilliant century by Darren Bravo and good contributions from Samuels (84), Chanderpaul (47) and a quickfire 32  by skipper Sammy helped West Indies score 463 runs, falling 15 runs short of the deficit.

Indian captain Dhoni credited the great victory specially to his new bowling attack saying it was exciting to see them attacking like a hunting pack. Umesh Yadav showed lot of promise with a match haul of 7 wickets. The spinner duo, Ojha and Ashwin, kept on consistently by taking 6 and 4 wickets respectively.

A big and deserving win for Team India. West Indies managed to avoid their biggest loss record by fighting hard in the second innings. Now the teams are coming to Mumbai for the last Test from November 22.
