India Fights COVID-19: Unlock 2.0, More Locks And PM Speaks…!

Late last night the Government of India announced Unlock 2.0 to commence from the 1 st of July 2020 till the end of the month after Unlock 1.0 ends today. The guidelines contained herein do not offer much as compared to Unlock 1.0 as most of the locked services continue here too, for example: schools and colleges are to remain shut till 31 st of July; all educational training institutions to remain shut too till at least 15 th July; cinema halls/gyms/auditoriums/bars/entertainment parks also to remain shut; all social/cultural/religious gatherings still banned; metro rail services not operating till 31 st July despite requests from a few states. Lockdown 5.0 In Containment Zones, Unlock 1.0 In Rest Of India!

The government of India today announced the 5 th extension of lockdown with Lockdown 5.0 to be in force till June 30, 2020 in all containment zones while listing out a phased lockdown exit plan for other areas of the country. Lockdown 4.0 ends on 31 st May. Therefore, while the national capital Delhi is going to complete a full exit soon with many curbs eased already notwithstanding record spikes of new cases in recent days, the financial capital Mumbai is still in the doldrums with infections and deaths spiraling, and will settle for a fifth extension of a month. However, detailed guidelines for Mumbai, Pune and other hot-spot places of Maharashtra are expected tomorrow from the state government.
