Feedback From a Professional Psychologist on the 'Drag' Episode

Well, since I have got a third person report about it, a lot must have been missed in the observation process that a psycho-analyst needs for one's elementary analysis. The protagonist's age, gait, body-language and other non-verbal communication serve as vital inputs in the process of social/person perception. Anyways, but I still managed to analyse the following which ofcourse is not the last word over it: It seems that the elderly man is not health conscious and may be a compulsive chain smoker at a point of time in his life. He currently hails from a poor or lower socio-economic class. But it may not have been the case few years ago when he could afford to buy a cigarette on his own. MAY BE. Other possibility is that even if he can afford the drag of his own money today, he may be asking from strangers for seeking brief attention from non-judgmental people. Need for affiliation too is reflected to some extent. He and his wife may be looking after each other and his childr

Yearender With A.....Drag?

Three days back at around 8pm we finished our evening tea and were standing outside our office gate as my colleague was finishing his fag. I saw one elderly couple crossing the road from opposite to us. As they crossed they kept on looking at us. I thoutht they might ask us something. They crossed and passed us still looking at us and stopped at little distance away. From the back of my eye I saw them talking intensely. Then the husband came up and addressed my colleague, 'Hello, can I have a drag please?' 'What! A drink?' 'No, no. I want only a drag. I didn't take one since yesterday!' My bewildered friend offered him the remaining part, 'Ok. Have it all'. And we started moving towards the gate. With the wife watching the man took one drag and shouted behind us, 'Hello, I want only a drag. Please take it back!' We waved at him and went back to work laughing all the way. Can you analyze this true bizzarre incident?

Binding Terror

First the public anger pouring into the streets of Mumbai. This kind of anger was first seen in Guwahati after the Assam blasts on Octover 30, with crowds marching on to attack the capital complex. The anger enveloping the whole of India now. Cascading into political resignations, falls of ministries and so on. Politics attacked finally not only by the elites who never bothered even to vote earlier, but also by the masses. And today, the 11th of December, in the Indian Parliament all political parties joined together to fight terror. Let the fallout of terror last forever, not terror.

Target Mumbai

Terror strikes Mumbai again. A new terror date is created--26/11. Yes, nobody knows where when and what next. And WHY.

Cricket Vibes

After many years India is fast adopting a positive ruthless attitude and is winning matches consistently. Defeated Aus in ODI 2-0, Aus in Test 2-0 and defeated England in ODI with a 4-0 lead. But some people, so much used to a negative mindset, are giving odd reactions. One reporter of a channel started babbling what England is doing and what it's supposed to do. Well, it's a fact that the weaker team always loses and you don't ask, hey buggers, why are you so weak! You criticize them identifying the areas of weakness. But you have to laud the winning team for its victory. Mercifully the reporter was cut short. Another scribe wrote that England lost the last two matches due to the D-L method. Yes, the D-L rules are complex, but it cannot possibly harm the better team. In the Kanpur ODI (Nov 20, 2008) India was in a sound position, 198/5 needing only 43 runs off 9 overs and at that point they won by 16 runs due to D-L. What's wrong in that? In the Bangalore

Longest Break!

...well, that's it! In the meantime the N-Deal was through with nobody quite being able to have the last laugh. Anyway, history was made. In the meantime most powerful blasts ravaged my hometown Guwahati and my home state Assam. Just ten days back we were there moving around most of the places targetted. The fear was there, but securtiy was utterly lacking. Well why innocents are being killed everywhere with nobody knowing where when what next. What purpose it serves? We were there for one month. Organized a musical function in fond memory of our father Bibekananda Bhattacharyya on the occasion of his first death anniversary, in Guwahati, Sept 28, 2008. The function named 'Prashanti' was a huge success with the innovative ways it was conducted. Ragini and myself compiled and edited a small book too as a souvenir. We hope to make it an annual musical event on 28th of any winter month, because 28th is our father's birth, death and marriage date which is significant
